What do Pinellas County’s budget cuts mean for Brooker Creek Preserve?

The good news is that Brooker Creek Preserve’s Environmental Education Center and hiking trails will remain open.

Come visit! Bring your family and friends!

With a $60 million budget deficit this year, and another $20 million looming in 2011, the county has had some tough decisions to make. Parks and preserves were on the chopping block. We are thrilled that our county commissioners and administrator have listened to our ideas for keeping Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center and the hiking trails open. Thanks to all of you who helped make that happen! Budget cuts will, of course, require that changes be made. Some of those changes have already happened, including a severe reduction of staff and more limited Education Center and hiking trail hours. Please see our current newsletter to learn more about our plans for Pinellas County’s Wildest Place and how you can help. The best place to start is to visit Brooker Creek Preserve’s Environmental Education Center and and/or hike the trails, if you haven’t already. Then consider joining us in our mission by becoming a “friend”.
