BUDGET CUTS – HOW YOU CAN HELP!

The budget cuts affecting our country have, of course, trickled down to the Environmental Lands Division (ELD) and Brooker Creek Preserve. Difficult decisions have already been made by ELD to reduce spending in the current fiscal year, and 2010 will prove to be even more of a challenge. Here’s how you can help!

1. Contact our County Commissioners and County Administrator

We have sent a letter co-signed by the Friends of Weedon Island, regarding the budget. We want to spread the word that the Education Centers and the Preserves’ foundation services (provided by the Environmental Lands Division and the Sheriff’s LIMA unit) are vital to the continued health of these unique places. We encourage you to let your county commissioners know that you support our letter and its request for continued adequate funding for Pinellas County’s precious preserves.

2. Join our fundraising committee

The Friends will continue to provide as much support as possible for programs and other needs at Brooker Creek Preserve. We are in the process of finding ways to raise funds to that end. To succeed, we need You! We are looking for ideas, event planning assistance, and some energized hands.
